On 11th September 2001, the whole world was in shock as the news that the World Trade Centre, USA, was attacked, came in. This shock came as a shock to many because probably the safest place in all of America was under attack. Many lost their loved ones in such a horrific act of terror. To this day, the date of 11th September reminds people of that attack. This whole day is spent remembering 9/11 attacks.
Today, after twenty years have passed, the citizens of the United States will look back remembering 9/11 attacks yet again just like every year. This was indeed one of the cruelest and heart-wrenching events in the history of the United States. The affected families still spend the day remembering 9/11 attacks and their loved ones who lost their lives.
1. What happened on 9/11?
Around 8:45 am, at the World Trade Centre, American Airlines Boeing crashed into one of the twin tower empires. The plane hit the 80th floor and turned the beautiful building into flames. With media broadcasters covering the event live, another plane came into sight, and that too crashed into the building causing both the towers to collapse like a house of cards. As a result of this attack, 2996 people lost their precious lives including hijackers. In response, the US president, George Bush addressed the nation. These were his words:
“Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.”(George Bush)
2. The reason behind 9/11 attacks
This act of terror was a response to America’s involvement in multiple other activities from which they should have stayed away. Reportedly, these terrorists were getting training in the US about flying planes, and thus, they succeeded in hijacking first and then crashing the two Boeing planes into the World Trade Center. To this day, many have chills remembering 9/11 attacks.
